…MONDAY-SCORPIO MOON OCCULTS SATURN…

Moon Children birthdays: Ringo Star; Michelle Kwan; George Cukor; Shelley Duvall; Robert Heinlein
It’s Chocolate, Strawberry Sundae; Father-Daughter Take a Walk Together, Global Forgiveness and Tell Truth Day. That’s a lot! Imagine there are other noted designations but celebrating all this should take us into tomorrow.

Today the Moon occults Saturn. This sounds mysterious and it somewhat is as it’s a bit like an eclipse but instead of the Sun and Moon eclipsing, the Moon eclipses Saturn, meaning it moves into a position to obscure it’s view. Astrologically this has significant meaning that I talk about in detail in the column this week. Along with the end of the week Capricorn Full Moon makes the days under a Saturn influence since Saturn rules Capricorn. From today until Saturday the lunar tide rises giving you an opportunity to stretch where before while Mercury was retrograde and other factors you were in a crunch. Getting plans underway and building foundations are positive actions.

The column this week is titled, The Impossible Becomes Possible, and You Can Get By with a Little Help from Your Friends – Mercury, Venus and Mars Sandra's Celestial Compass Weekly Column

July 03, 2014

Sending good thoughts as we approach the holiday weekend here in the states. Haven't checked the news to see the latest on the hurricane heading North East. Imagine that will change a lot of travel plans. Thinking of the mystical side of the nation and it's founding.

Astrology - June 30 - July 6, 2014

Starting over, Regrouping and Realigning; Mercury, the Sun and Pluto help you move forward as convictions are affirmed.

The more than usually intense Mercury Retrograde cycle ends this week on Tuesday bringing for many a sigh of relief. Mercury retrograde cycles occur approximately three times yearly though once in a while one is stronger based on other celestial factors that contribute to the...

FRI 13TH...GEMINI SUN...SAGITTARIUS FULL MOON.SOLAR FLARES

FRI 13TH...GEMINI SUN...SAGITTARIUS FULL MOON.SOLAR FLARES
The Full Moon peaked just after midnight, at 12:05 AM Eastern Time so now growing small toward the next new moon June 27. Simultaneously, Venus opposed Saturn in fixed signs making the influence strong and potentially brought in, and may still bring in over the weekend, situations that are difficult to reverse especially with Mercury retrograde and Mars square Pluto tomorrow causing volatility and further stress. Love relationships not intended to go forward can fall apart; social connections reach a point of limitation. Because the lunar phase is in Sagittarius there is a higher standard being expressed. A few may no longer accept a shabby association especially if games are part of it. This can ring true for any sign that prefers to go about their own business without the superficiality or false displays of affection endured in the past. Yesterday, today and certainly tomorrow are not days to make commitments. It’s a time to evaluate ideologies and rethink philosophies and expectations in the light of higher purposes. See desire as an opportunity to reach for lofty aspirations. There is a kind of undercurrent of finality now and over the weekend. Emissions from solar flares are incoming today that could cause communication outages and impacts the physiology in various ways depending on who’s vulnerable. Sometimes there is pressure on heart conditions and neurologically and anyone especially weak. It’s an unusual day.

Fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia, meaning fear of that specific day of the month. It's a special form of triskaidekaphobia, which is an extreme fear of the number 13.
Norse myth tells of Gods at a dinner party in heaven with 12 guests having a good time, but the uninvited killed Balder the Beautiful, the God of Joy. Mourning ensued and hence the day was deemed unlucky.
There is the story of Jesus where Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper. Jesus was crucified on Friday and some scholars think Adam and Eve fell on Friday and that Cain killed Abel on Friday the 13th.
There is significance to the complete number 12 and that 13 is the odd number causing havoc. 13 is numerology adds up to 4 that is sometimes thought to be a number of failure. When Napoleon changed the spelling of his name that added up to 4 he failed. There are many stories and legends suggesting a dread for the day. Many find it absolutely okay and march forward without incident. Of course, if you suffer paraskavedekatriaphobia, then by all means stay home and wait until tomorrow to venture out.

MAKES ME WONDER ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF ELEMENTALS (SPRITES, PIXIES, KNOMES, BROWNIES, SALAMANDERS, FAIRIES, SYLPHS, UNDINES)

Atmospheric sprites have been known for nearly a century, but their origins were a mystery. Now, a team of researchers has evidence that sprites form at plasma irregularities and may be useful in remote sensing of the lower ionosphere.

"We are trying to understand the origins of this phenomenon," said Victor Pasko, professor of electrical engineering, Penn State. "We would like to know how sprites are initiated and how they develop."

Sprites are an optical phenomenon that occur above thunderstorms in the D region of the ionosphere, the area of the atmosphere just above the dense lower atmosphere, about 37 to 56 miles above the Earth. The ionosphere is important because it facilitates the long distance radio communication and any disturbances in the ionosphere can affect radio transmission.

"In high-speed videos we can see the dynamics of sprite formation and then use that information to model and to reproduce the dynamics," said Jianqi Qin, Penn State.

Sprites occur above thunderstorms, but thunderstorms, while necessary for the appearance of a sprite, are not sufficient to initiate sprites. All thunderstorms and lightning strikes do not produce sprites. Recent modeling studies show that plasma irregularities in the ionosphere are a necessary condition for the initiation of sprite streamers, but no solid proof of those irregularities existed.

The researchers studied video observations of sprites, developed a model of how sprites evolve and disappear, and tested the model to see if they could recreate sprite-forming conditions.

Sprites resemble reddish orange jellyfish with bluish filamentary tendrils hanging down below. Careful examination of videos of sprites forming showed that their downward hanging filaments form much more rapidly than in the horizontal spread, leading the researchers to suggest that localized plasma irregularities cause the streamers to propagate.

Researchers used a two-dimensional cylindrical symmetric plasma fluid model, a mathematical model of the ionization movements in the sprite, to study sprite dynamics. They then used the model to recreate optical sprite creation. From this recreation, the researchers determined where the sprite streamers originated, and they could estimate the size of the plasma irregularity.

Further analysis suggested some potential causes of these plasma irregularities. The most obvious seems to be the existence in that area of a previous sprite. For the sprites examined, there were no previous sprites in that area that occurred close enough in time, unless there were long-lasting irregularities. However, the researchers are unsure how such long-lasting events could occur.

Another possible source for the irregularities is meteor events. The D region of the ionosphere is in the upper part of the atmosphere where most meteors can exist, because once they enter the denser, lower atmosphere they burn up due to atmospheric friction.

"This technique can be used for remote sensing in the ionosphere as well," said Pasko. "Using high speed videos and fluid models we may be able to see other things that go on in the ionosphere and better understand the effects of various natural phenomena on very low frequency radio communications."

JANUARY 30-SUPER MOON IN AQUARIUS + CHINESE NEW YEAR OF THE HORSE

Today is the Super Moon because it’s close to the earth. We have quite a few this year with the first being the first day of 2014. It’s also a New Moon beginning at 4:39 PM growth toward full in 2wks. Here in the Western world it’s the date of the Chinese New Year of the Horse that tomorrow (due to time difference) it occurs in the East so marked on calendars for tomorrow. I’ve written a short article about it and effect for 2014-link is below.
